You can regulate the distance from which a microphone picks up sound by adjusting the microphone's sensitivity or gain settings. Lowering the sensitivity or gain will make the microphone less sensitive to sound from a distance, while increasing it will make the microphone more sensitive. Additionally, using a microphone with a directional pickup pattern, such as a cardioid or shotgun microphone, can help focus on sound from a specific direction and reduce pickup from surrounding areas. Experimenting with microphone placement and using tools like pop filters or windshields can also help control the distance from which the microphone picks up sound. **
